Is Distance Learning As Good As Traditional Learning?

Studies by Searcy and Others (1993) and Nixon (1992) were conducted to determine whether students learning was as good as traditional education when achieved via distance education. Neither found significant difference in average GPAs between the formats though Searcy found student completion rates might be higher in the traditional sections, thus raising questions concerning factors impeding student course completion: students needing more guidance or more extensive interaction with faculty and the issue of technology access as it might affect low-income, minority students.

DETC Approved by CHEA and USDE

There is some conflict between the DETC [Distance Education Training Council] and regionally accredited schools, a third of attempted transfers to regionally accredited schools were rejected in results of a DETC study. To be sure your transcript and credit from DETC is fully acceptable to them should you plan to transfer for further studies, the Higher Education Transfer Alliance database will show which schools accept accreditation from schools approved by CHEA [Council for Higher Education Accreditation] and USDE [United States Department of Education], which does include DETC.
